Details

If you’re looking for a way to bring more meaning and possibility to the choice of cremation, consider Lakewood.

Located in the heart of south Minneapolis, Lakewood is Minnesota’s most beautiful and historic cemetery—and a nonprofit organization that’s been serving families for 150 years. If you are considering or have chosen cremation, we’re here to support you in making decisions that are aligned with your vision, values and budget.

Why choose Lakewood?

  • We are a nonprofit organization committed to offering a range of accessible and exceptional options—with extraordinary respect and care.
  • We offer a variety of traditional and unique ways for you to honor and remember your loved one—or be remembered.
  • When someone is cremated at Lakewood, their name is permanently preserved in our records, so they become a documented part of our community’s history.

Bringing more intention and creativity to the choice of cremation

As cremation becomes increasingly popular, more people are exploring ways to bring more meaning to the process—and what comes after.

Gathering at the time of cremation

At Lakewood, many families choose to witness the cremation and create their own form of meaningful ceremony or celebration. We have a comfortable place to gather in our crematory if you choose, and unique spaces for receptions and memorial celebrations afterwards. Perhaps you’ll choose to tie a ribbon on our Living Memory Tree.

Scattering ashes or safekeeping urns

We also have a variety of beautiful areas where cremated remains can be scattered or preserved, so that you and your family will have a forever place to return to, not just an urn on a shelf. You can choose indoor or outdoor spaces to create a permanent memorial.
